Classifications Comparison

Explanation of symbols used.

A. Grey boxes on the Galati 2003 classification indicate novel phylogenetic information provided by Galati’s new classification. Aside from a few remarks given in the text, Young & Duncan 1994 give no information on the phylogenetic relationships between any of the sub-generic groups within their genus Lutzomyia.

B. Red stars indicate new sub-genera or genera in the Galati classification that do not exist in the Young & Duncan classification.

C. Coloured highlighting indicates groupings from Young & Duncan which are not recovered as monophyletic groups in the Galati classification.

D. Solid blue arrows indicate where exactly the same grouping is recovered in both classifications.

E. Broken blue arrows indicate where broadly the same grouping is recovered in both classifications with only very minor changes to the taxa included.
